Dr Ernest Chan OAM

It’s a surprisingly common response from many Australian honours recipients. Dr Ernest Chan OAM’s first reflex action was to delete the email advising of his consideration of an award.  But then he didn’t!

“I thought it was spam and almost deleted it. But after reading the email, I was pleasantly surprised and extremely honoured.”

Inspired by local volunteers and senior colleagues, Dr Chan is grateful to all the people with whom he has worked at different stages of his life. And of course, to his wife Natalie, who managed their family while he was away.

“Being able to work with people from different walks of life has allowed me to service the communities with which I associated and I gained valuable experience that broadened my horizons.”
