Dr Wally Ahmar OAM

Dr Wally Ahmar OAM is passionate about the betterment of individual and community health.
He is currently President of the Australian Lebanese Medical Association, President and Co-Founder of the International Lebanese Medical Association, cardiology consultant at Monash Health and St Vincent’s Private Hospital and member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Brunswick Private Hospital.
For his work, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to medicine, particularly cardiology.
“I am actively involved in community education especially between Lebanon and Australia, and promoting health awareness in our Australian Lebanese Community,” he says.
“I want to serve and be a servant for health improvement for the Australian Lebanese community and the whole Australian community.
“I am privileged to have been able to obtain an education and be able to be trusted by my patients with looking after their health needs as well as being trusted by the community to advance their health issues with government and political leaders.”
Dr Ahmar says he hopes he has been able to raise awareness around cardiovascular health and create change that is beneficial to the community.
His recognition, he says, was a wonderful surprise.
“I am motivated [to do the work I do] because I enjoy seeing patients recover and get better and become able to function normally once again from their heart issues,” he says.
“I would like to thank my parents for instilling into me the importance of education and life values, even though they did not have an opportunity for education, and for the sacrifices they have made for myself and my siblings.”
“[Also, thanks to] my wife and three beautiful boys, who have supported me in everything I do and have also sacrificed.”
