Johan (Hans) Hietbrink OAM

Johan (Hans) Hietbrink OAM has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community of the Northern Tablelands region.

His service spans the Armidale Regional Council, Guyra Shire Council, Guyra and District Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Guyra, Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, the RSL and more.

“Whether it has been working in local government, or on state boards, or within community organisations and associations, I have worked to ensure that collaborative ideas come to fruition,” Mr Hietbrink says.

“My impact has been in contributing my experience to achieve positive outcomes in these organisations.

“The enjoyment is being able to give something back to the broader community in exchange for the benefits I and my family have derived from living in our town.”

Asked about his recognition in the Order of Australia, Mr Hietbrink says he felt honoured and humbled.

“I want to thank all the members of the community who contribute and work for the betterment of the region,” he says.

“There are many service clubs and organisations that, together, make rural and regional communities more resilient and more enjoyable to live in.

“I thank all the people who have supported me in my work in the community.”
