Nicholas Moore AM

For the last 36 years, Nicholas Moore AM has been at the forefront of prawn farming in Australia and, indeed, globally. It is his career and passion, and he has had a significant impact.

Mr Moore has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the aquaculture sector.

“I was, in a word, stunned. It means to me that members in the industry must think that I am worthy of the nomination and that alone is brilliant. I can think of many others that I would consider, but that does not diminish my excitement at all,” Mr Moore said.

“I’ve been involved in intense livestock production for my entire adult life. Aquaculture provided a whole new set of exciting and hugely enjoyable challenges that I am sure will continue long after me.

“It is a role of constant discovery and development. The ever-changing markets and production techniques are quite dynamic. While feeding, nutrition and aeration improvements are evolving almost annually, motivation comes with it all and it’s a privilege to be part of it. I love every minute.”

Asked about his recognition, Mr Moore thanked people from his family to those he has worked with.

“Of the many people in my career who have supported me and been by my side, the most important by far has been my wife, Tracy. This nomination is as much for her as for me.

“Without the vision of Mr Ervin Vidor AM and Mr Noel Herbst AO the industry would be a poorer place and I thank them for their unswerving faith in me. Every staff member I’ve ever had – so many are now senior managers and share the same ideals and principles. That is an honour for me that few get to experience.”
