On Wednesday 31 May 2017, at ANZAC Parade, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the National Boer War Memorial Association, Colonel John Haynes OAM (Retd), officially opened the National Boer War Memorial.
In the afternoon, following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia on a State Visit to New Zealand, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of Australia was signed by the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.
Afterwards, at Wellington Airport Military Terminal, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, were welcomed to New Zealand by New Zealand Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and Minister of Conservation, the Honourable Maggie Barry; and Representing the Mayor of Wellington, Councillor Simon Woolf.
Later, at Government House, Wellington, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Governor-General of New Zealand, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy GNZM QSO DStJ and His Excellency Sir David Gascoigne KNZM CBE CStJ.
In the evening, at Government House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received a briefing by His Excellency Peter Woolcott AO.
Afterwards, at Government House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Governor-General of New Zealand attended an official dinner.
