On Sunday 23 April 2017, at the United Service Club, Spring Hill, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Senior Patron, and Lady Cosgrove presented The Royal Humane Society of Australasia 2016 Clarke Gold Medal to Mr Timothy John Bunyan. The Clarke Gold Medal is the Royal Humane Society’s highest award, reserved for those who have displayed the ‘most outstanding bravery’. Mr Bunyan was awarded the Clarke Gold Medal for his great courage and bravery in rescuing a driver from a crashed and burning truck.

In the afternoon, in Brisbane, the Governor-General received President-elect of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, President-elect Francisco Guterres Lu-Olo; Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Abel Guterres; and Chief of Staff to the President-elect, Mr Harold Moucho.
