On Monday 27 March 2017, at the Commonwealth Games Corporation Headquarters, Gold Coast, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, received a briefing on operations and met with staff and volunteers.

Afterwards, at Griffith University, Gold Coast, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, met with the Chancellor, Mr Henry Smerdon AM.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the District Governor of Rotary District 9640, Mr Michael Irving, launched the Rotary Club of Southport’s Malaria Vaccine Project. This project aims to develop a vaccine that will help stop over 400,000 deaths a year.

In the evening, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a welcome home reception for athletes and supporters of the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
