On Wednesday 15 February 2017, at the Arch of Victory precinct, Ballarat, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as a guest of the Mayor of Ballarat, Councillor Samantha McIntosh, opened the Garden of the Grieving Mother.

Afterwards, at the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial, Ballarat, the Governor-General, as a guest of the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, the Honorouable Dan Tehan MP, attended a commemoration ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore.

In the afternoon, at the Ballarat Specialist School, the Governor-General, as a guest of the Principal, Ms Kim Yearwood, viewed the facilities and met with staff and students.

Afterwards, at the Mecure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre, the governor-General, as a guest of the Honourable Dan Tehan MP, attended a 75th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore reception.

Later, at Federation University Australia, Mount Helen, the Governor-General, as a guest of the Chancellor, Dr Paul Hemming, viewed the facilities and met with researchers and students.

In the evening, at Manuka Oval, Canberra, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as a guest of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP, attended the Prime Minister’s XI versus Sri Lanka T20 cricket match.
