On Saturday 28 January 2017, at the Tamworth Regional Gallery, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Tamworth Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Colin Murray, attended a civic reception.
Afterwards, at Tamworth, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a lunch for Councillor Colin Murray and Australian country music singer, Mr Lee Kernaghan and Mrs Robyn Kernaghan.
In the afternoon, at Peel Street, Tamworth, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Councillor Murray, attended the Tamworth Music Festival. During the Festival, up to 600 buskers performed along the street, which is known as the ‘Boulevard of Dreams’. Many Australian country music singers started their careers busking along this street.
Later, at the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, Tamworth, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Mr Eric Scott, viewed the museum and met with staff and volunteers. The Governor-General also presented volunteer Ms Judy Loffel with a Governor-General’s medallion in recognition of her significant contribution to the Hall of Fame since 1997.
In the evening, at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Councillor Murray, attended the 45th Country Music Awards of Australia 2017, where the Governor-General joined The McClymonts to present Golden Guitars for Alternative Country Album of the Year to Bennett, Bowtell & Urqhart and Album of the Year to Troy Cassar-Daley.
