On Wednesday 23 November 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Australian Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr Miles Armitage.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a Ceremonial Welcome for Their Majesties King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with Their Majesties King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and received: His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, Prince of the Hashemite Family; His Royal Highness Prince Hashim bin Al Hussein, Prince Hashim of Jordan; the Honourable Mr Miles Armitage, Australian Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; Mr Manar Dabbas, Director of Political Affairs Directorate; Mr Qais Abu Daieh, Assistant Chief of Royal Protocol; Dr Rami Farraj, Director of Private Medical Office; Mr Nasser Judeh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Mr Ali Kraishan, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Australia; Colonel Amin Qatarneh, Chief Aide-de-camp to His Majesty the King; and Dr Fayez Tarawneh, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a State Lunch in honour of Their Majesties King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In the evening, at the Canberra Theatre Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Queensland Ballet Chair, Mr Brett Clark, attended the opening night performance of The Nutcracker.

Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from Byron Bay Public School, NSW, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
