On Thursday 15 September 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, at the commencement of a regional visit to Mildura, VIC, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Vice President, Mrs Redgina Balchin, visited the Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC), at which the Governor-General; received a traditional Pacific Islander welcome; met with clients of the Mirabinda Social Club Mental Health Peer Support Group; as Patron of Foodbank Australia, viewed facilities and received an overview of the Mildura Community Foodshare program; met with Young Australians involved in the Flexible Learning Options program; and shared afternoon tea with clients, volunteers and staff from SMECC.

Later, at the Mildura Arts Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Mildura Rural City Council, Councillor Glenn Milne, attended a civic reception hosted in their honour.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a dinner with the Mayor of Mildura Rural City Council and Mrs Rebekah Milne.

Earlier, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General met with students from; St Andrew’s Anglican College, QLD; Waimea Heights Primary School, TAS; Marymount Catholic Primary School, QLD; Trinity Lutheran College, QLD; and Walkerston State School, QLD, as they undertook tours of Government House as part of their visits to Canberra.
