On Thursday 8 September 2016, at Deodora Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron of the Australian Paralympic Committee, and Lady Cosgrove viewed Australian athletes Ms Libby Kosmala and Ms Natalie Smith compete in the R2 – Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event.

Afterwards, at the Rio Olympic Velodrome, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove watched Australian athletes Mr Matt Formston and Mr Nick Yallouris, and Mr Kieran Modra and Mr David Edwards compete in the Men’s B 4000m Individual Pursuit qualifiers.

Later, in Barra, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a lunch for Australian Embassy officials.

In the afternoon, at the Centro Pavilion, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove supported Australian athletes Ms Andrea McDonnell and Ms Melissa Tapper during the Singles Table Tennis preliminary round.

Afterwards, at the Rio Olympic Velodrome, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Women’s C4 3000m Individual Pursuit Final, in which Australian cyclist Ms Susan Powell won a silver medal.

In the evening, at the Olympic Arena, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove watched the Australian 'Rollers' wheelchair basketball team win the Men’s preliminary round match against the Netherlands, 70 to 50.

During the Wheelchair Basketball, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were accompanied by children from the Australian-funded Luta Pela Paz youth engagement program, which seeks to help with the development of young people from communities affected by crime, violence and social exclusion.
