On Tuesday 6 September 2016, at Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, Rio de Janeiro, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Federative Republic of Brazil by the Australian Ambassador to Brazil, His Excellency Mr John Richardson and Ms Yvonne Flanders.

Afterwards, at the Olympic Village, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Australian Chef de Mission, Ms Kate McLoughlin.

Later, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Australian Paralympic Committee, addressed the Rio 2016 Australian Paralympic Team.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with Australian athletes.

In the evening, at the Olympic Village Dining Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a dinner with the Australian Paralympic Team.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove viewed the Australian preparation and recovery facilities.
