On Wednesday 31 August 2016, in Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron, met with volunteers of Meals on Wheels ACT and delivered meals to clients in Tuggranong to celebrate National Meals on Wheels Day.

Afterwards, at Government House, the Governor-General hosted a morning tea for National Wattle Day, at which the Governor-General was presented with a basket of wattle by students from Holy Spirit Primary School.

Later, the Governor-General received the National President, Mr Norman Faifer, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Greg Hughes and Life Member, Mr John Doust AM of the Australian Institute of Building, the President of the Australasian Universities Building Education Association, Professor Joshua Pienaar and former President of the Victorian Chapter of the Young Builders Alliance, Mr Karl Vaitekunas.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Ireland, Mr Richard Andrews.

Afterwards, the Governor-General hosted an afternoon tea for the Northern Mallee and Loddon Murray Community Leadership Groups.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a dinner in honour of the American Ambassador, His Excellency Mr John Berry and Mr Curtis Yee. Guests included: Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin AC and Mrs Gitte Binskin; and Mr Dennis Richardson AO and Mrs Betty Richardson.
