On Tuesday 30 August 2016, at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Forrest, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove attended an Ecumenical Service to commemorate the commencement of the Forty-Fifth Commonwealth Parliament.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General met with students from St Pius X Catholic School, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

Later, the Governor-General met with students from Scone Public School, NSW, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

Then, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove hosted an morning tea for the launch of Group Training Australia's 2016 program.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Chief of the Air Force, Air Marshal Leo Davies AO CSC.

In the afternoon, at Parliament House, Canberra, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended the First Session of the Forty-Fifth Commonwealth Parliament, at which the Governor-General opened the session and addressed the Parliament.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General met with students from Goondiwindi State School, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

In the evening, at the Sandgate Returned and Services League Club, Lady Cosgrove, as guest speaker, attended a SU Queensland School Chaplains fundraising dinner.
