On Tuesday 23 August 2016, at the Roma Sale Yards, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the General Manager, Mr Terry Hyland, received a tour of the facilities by local volunteer guide, Mr Jim Scott, and met with members of the farming community.
Afterwards, at the Great Artesian Spa, Mitchell, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a community reception.
Later, at the Mitchell Multi-Purpose Health Service, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive of South West Hospital and Health Service, Ms Glynis Schultz, viewed the facility and met with residents, staff and volunteers.
In the afternoon, at the Muckadilla Whistle Stop, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of local historian, Mr David Bowden, opened the ‘Bruce Scott Corner’, laid a floral tribute at the Muckadilla War Memorial Cenotaph, planted a Lone Pine Tree sapling and met with members of the local community.
Afterwards, at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chancellor, Mr John Dornbusch, met with Student Ambassadors and students of the Open Access College.
Later, at the Toowoomba Refugee and Migrant Support Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Ms Kate Venables, met with staff, volunteers, clients and their families.
In the evening, at the Inbound Café, Toowoomba, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of the Toowoomba Regional Council, Cr Paul Antonio, attended a civic reception.
