On Monday 22 August 2016, at Roma State College, Roma, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Principal, Mr Anthony Green, visited the Middle Campus, where they met with students from years 4 to 8.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by the Honourable Bruce Scott and the Mayor of Maranoa Regional Council, Cr Tyson Golder, visited Roma town centre and met with members of the community.
Later, at the Big Rig Oil and Gas Interpretative Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Manager for Economic and Community Development, Mr Ed Sims, viewed the historical displays and received a briefing from local historian Mr Peter Keegan.
Then, at the Roma War Memorial Cenotaph, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Roma RSL Sub-Branch President, Mr George Meahy, laid a floral tribute at the cenotaph and met with local veterans and guests.
In the evening, at Explorers Inn Roma, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Cr Tyson Golder, attended a civic reception.
