On Thursday 18 August 2016, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) as guest speaker, and Lady Cosgrove attended a Stand-To Service to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan and Vietnam Veterans' Day, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath.
Afterwards, at Government House, the Governor-General met with students from Nichols Point Primary School, VIC, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
Later, at the Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Vietnam Veterans' Remembrance Day Service, at which the Governor-General delivered an address.
Then, at Government House, the Governor-General met with students from Nabiac Public School, NSW, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
Afterwards, the Governor-General met with students from Tranby College, WA, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
In the afternoon, at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove attended the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment Battle of Long Tan 50th Anniversary commemorative parade, at which the Governor-General reviewed the parade.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commanding Officer of 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel James Hunter, attended a reception.
