On Wednesday 10 August 2016, in Santiago, Chile, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Republic of Chile by the Australian Ambassador to Chile, His Excellency Mr Timothy Kane.

Afterwards, in Las Condes, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a bilateral briefing with Ambassador Kane.

Later, at the Chilean Foreign Ministry, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chilean Minister for Defence, Mr José Gómez, were accompanied by a mounted escort by the ‘Granaderos Mounted Regiment’ at a ceremony at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the General Bernardo O’Higgins Monument.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited the Crypt of General Bernardo O’Higgins.

Afterwards, at the La Moneda Presidential Palace, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Republic of Chile, Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet AC, attended a ceremonial welcome.

Later, the Governor-General met with President Bachelet, who was accompanied by the Chilean Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Heraldo Muñoz.

Then, the Governor-General and President Bachelet made a joint media statement in recognition of the 70th anniversary of Australia's diplomatic presence in Chile.

Afterwards, at the Chilean Supreme Court, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the President of the Chilean Supreme Court, Mr Hugo Enrique Dolmestch.

In the evening, at the Palacio de La Moneda, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of President Bachelet, attended a State Dinner hosted in their honour.
