On Sunday 7 August 2016, at Montevideo Carrasco International Airport, Uruguay, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay by the Australian Ambassador to Uruguay, His Excellency Mr Noel Campbell and the Uruguayan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Rodolfo Nin Novoa.

Afterwards, at Estancia La Constancia, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Carlos Sapelli and Mrs Ana Gutierrez, attended a traditional Parilla lunch.

In the evening, at the Radisson Montevideo Victoria Plaza Hotel, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a reception for Australian and Uruguayan alumni and business representatives, at which the Governor-General made a presentation to the Honorary Consul in Uruguay, Mr Diego Paysse, in recognition of 20 years of service to Australia.
