On Friday 5 August 2016, in Botafogo, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, attended a lunch for Australians working and living in Brazil.

Afterwards, at Itamaraty Palace, Centro, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Interim President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Mr Michel Temer, attended a reception for visiting Heads of State and Heads of Government.

In the evening, at Maracanã Stadium, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Australian Olympic Committee and Lady Cosgrove, represented Australia at the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
