On Wednesday 3 August 2016, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove received a bilateral briefing from the Australian Ambassador to Brazil, His Excellency John Richardson.

Afterwards, at the Athletes Olympic Village, Barra da Tijuka, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Australian Olympic Committee, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chef de Mission, Ms Kitty Chiller, attended the team’s INSPIRE session, at which the Governor-General addressed the Australian Olympic Team.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Welcome to the Olympic Village and Australian Flag Raising Ceremony.

In the evening, at the SulAmerica Convention Centre, Estácio, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a welcome reception for the Australian-hosted 8th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting, attended by the Australian Minister for Health, Aged Care and Sport, the Honourable Sussan Ley MP; and the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, the Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC.
