On Monday 1 August 2016, in Mexico City, Mexico, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, hosted a breakfast for Australian and Mexican business representatives.

Afterwards, at Chapultepec Park, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at the Niños Heroés monument, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath.

Later, at the National Palace the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of Mexico, His Excellency President Peña Nieto, attended a ceremonial welcome.

Then, the Governor-General met with the President of Mexico who was accompanied by the Mexican Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Claudia Ruiz Massieu, and the Mexican Minister for the Economy, Dr Ildefonso Guajardo.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and the President of Mexico made a joint media statement in recognition of the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of Mexico, attended a State Lunch hosted in their honour.

Then, at the Municipal Palace, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Mayor of Mexico City, Dr Miguel Ángel Mancera.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General was made a Distinguished Guest of Mexico City and awarded the keys to Mexico City.

In the evening, at the Australian Ambassador’s residence, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian Ambassador to Mexico, His Excellency Mr David Engel and Ms Siriporn Nimmanop, attended a reception with government, business and community leaders of Mexico.
