On Sunday 31 July 2016, in Texcoco, Mexico, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Deputy Director-General, Research and Partnerships, Dr Marianne Banziger, visited the Australian funded International Centre for Research and Improvement of Wheat and Corn in recognition of its 50th anniversary.

Afterwards, at the Teotihuacan Archaeological Zone, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Mr Alejandro Sarabia, visited the Pyramid of the Sun, Calzada de los Muertos, Jaguar Mural and the Butterfly Temple.

Later, at the Australian Ambassador’s residence, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian Ambassador to Mexico, His Excellency Mr David Engel, attended a barbecue lunch with Australian Embassy staff.

In the evening, at the Palace of Bellas Artes, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director-General, National Institute for Fine Arts, Ms Maria Cristina Garcia Cepeda, viewed the palace murals and attended a performance of the Ballet Folklórico de México.
