On Thursday 28 July 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Earlier, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister, the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Oath of Office to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel, the Honourable Dan Tehan MP.

Later, the Governor-General met with two groups of students from Genesis Christian College, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House, as part of their visit to Canberra.

Then, the Governor-General received former Secretary of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Mr Michael Thawley AO.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a dinner for the Heads of Mission who represent countries that will be visited by Their Excellencies in the upcoming visit program to Latin America. Guests included: His Excellency Mr Armando Alvarez Reina and Mrs Gladys Tenorio Galguera; Chi Daniel Carvallo and Mrs Jacqueline Pinto de Carvallo; His Excellency Mr Manuel Innocencio De Lacerda Santos Jr and Mrs Sonia Maria Queiroz De Lacerda Santos; HE Dr Hugo Gobbi and Dr Beatriz Mollerach; Dr John Howe OAM; Ms Jessica Hughes; and Wing Commander Steven Parsons.
