Charles Darwin University, Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Education visit; Menzies School of Health Research visit; Darwin High School visit; State Visit to Timor-Leste
On Wednesday 2 March 2016, at Charles Darwin University, Casuarina, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Maddocks, visited the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Education.
Afterwards, at the Royal Darwin Hospital Campus, Tiwi, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Menzies Foundation, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Professor Alan Cass, visited the Menzies School of Health Research.
Later, at Darwin High School, The Gardens, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Principal, Mr Trevor Read, viewed the School’s Science Facility and later attended a morning tea with students, teachers, parents and staff in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the schools official opening.
Then, in Darwin, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received the Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Mr Peter Doyle.
In the afternoon, following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia on a State Visit to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, signed the Proclamation assuming Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia.
On arrival at the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Dili, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timor-Leste, His Excellency Hernani Coelho, attended a welcome ceremony.
Afterwards, at the Comoro Community Health Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Head of the Community Centre, Mr Abel dos Santos, met with medical staff and viewed the Australian funded medical training programs.
In the evening, at the Australian residence, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of His Excellency Mr Peter Doyle and Ms Jennifer Lee, attended a reception with representatives of the Defence Cooperation Program, Police Cooperation Program, New Colombo Program students and other Australians living in Timor-Leste.
Afterwards, the Governor-General invested Ms Mary Waterford AM with the insignia of the Member of the Order of Australia, and later presented Australian Police medals to Australian Federal Police members.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were hosted to dinner by the Australian Ambassador and Ms Lee.
