Darwin Visit

On Thursday 5 November 2015, at the Darwin Civic Centre, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guests of the Lord Mayor of Darwin, Ms Katrina Fong Lim, attend a citizenship ceremony, at which the Governor-General was Presiding Officer.

Afterwards, in Darwin, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, attended the 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment Freedom of Entry parade to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the 5th Battalion.

Then, at the Darwin Civic Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Lord Mayor Lim, attended a civic reception in honour of the 5th Battalion.

In the afternoon, at Binh Ba Lines Robertson Barracks, Palmerston, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Command Officer 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Shields MBE, attended a museum opening and memorial wall dedication service.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Lieutenant Colonel Paul Shields, attended a promotion and awards ceremony.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia Northern Territory, Mr Bob Shewring and the President of the Darwin RSL Sub-Branch, Mr Don Milford, met with Vietnam Veterans at the Darwin RSL.
