Vietnam Veterans’ Remembrance Day service; Call by Speaker of the Parliament (Shura Council) of Saudi Arabia; ASEAN Day reception
On Tuesday 18 August 2015, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Dr Hassan Hanafy Mahmoud El-Laithy.
Then, the Governor-General received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, His Excellency Mr Nasir Ahmad Andisha and Mrs Jyotsna Hamida Andisha.
Afterwards, at the Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Vice-President, Vietnam Veterans’ Association of Australia ACT Branch, Mr Pete Ryan, attended the Vietnam Veterans’ Day Remembrance Service, at which the Governor-General delivered a bible reading and with Lady Cosgrove, laid a wreath.
Then, at Government House, the Governor-General received the Speaker of the Parliament (Shura Council) of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Dr Abdullah M. I. Al Sheikh and his accompanying delegation.
Later, at Old Parliament House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove as guests of the Chairman, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee Canberra, His Excellency Mr Burhan Gafoor, attended the ASEAN Day reception.
