Visit to Hobart
On Monday 23 March 2015, at Warrane, Hobart, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer of OAK Tasmania, Mr John Paton, met with staff and guests at Oakdale Industries and attended a morning tea at which the Governor-General presented Mr Peter Harvey a certificate recognising 50 years of service.
Afterwards, at Mawson’s Place, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer and Chair of Mawson’s Hut Foundation, Mr David Jensen AM, visited the Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum, at which the Governor-General, as Patron, launched the book ‘Mawson’s Remarkable Men’ written by Mr Jensen.
Later, at the University of Tasmania, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Rathjen, visited the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and Menzies Institute for Medical Research where they received briefings on current research, met staff and viewed facilities.
