Visit to Katherine and Kununurra
On Saturday 21 June 2014, at Nitmiluk National Park, Northern Territory, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chair of the Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation, Ms Lisa Mumbin, and the Chair of Nitmiluk Tours, Ms Jane Runyu, met with Jawoyn Elders and Park Rangers during a visit to Nitmiluk Gorge.
Afterwards, in Kalano, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Australian Red Cross, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Co-ordinator, Mrs Sue Pszkit, and in recognition of the centenary of the Australian Red Cross, met residents at the Kalano Flexible Aged Care Centre.
Later, at Nitmiluk Oval, Katherine, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Regional Manager, AFL – Northern Territory, Mr Denis Coburn, attended a Big Rivers Football League match between the Beswick Bears and the Tindal Magpies.
Then, in Kununurra, Western Australia, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commanding Officer, Northwest Mobile Force, Lieutenant Colonel Matt Campbell, met with members of Kimberley Squadron.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the owners, Ms Rebecca Bugg and Ms Cally Bugg, visited the Artopia Gallery.
In the evening, at the Pumphouse Restaurant, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a dinner hosted in their honour by the Shire President, Wyndham-East Kimberley Shire, Councillor John Moulden.
