Visit to Ti Tree and Utopia
On Tuesday 20 August 2013, in Ti Tree, Northern Territory, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Manager, Ms Ruth Turpie, met with staff at the Ti Tree Women’s Centre and Safe House.
Afterwards, at the Ti Tree Aged Care Centre, the Governor-General, as guest of the Manager, Ms Edna Snape, attended a morning tea and met with residents.
Later, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Cathryn Hutton, visited the Central Desert Shire Council Offices.
Then, at the Ti Tree School, the Governor-General, as guest of the Principal, Ms Ann Fowler, met with staff and read a book to the students before attending at community barbecue.
Afterwards, in the Utopia Homelands Region, the Governor-General, as guest of the Principal, Ms Julie Permezel, met with staff and students at Arlparra High School.
Later, at the Barkly Shire Council Service Centre, Arlparra, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chair of the Urapuntja Council, Mr Dennis Kunoth, met with women Elders and attended a community reception.
Then, at the Soapy Bore Primary School, the Governor-General, as guest of the Head Teacher, Mr Allan Webster, listened to the students perform their school song before meeting with the community for afternoon tea.
Afterwards, at Soapy Bore, the Governor-General, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Contact Incorporated, Ms Sue Kingwell, met with children and their families.
Later, at Alparra, the Governor-General, as guest of the Clinic Manager, Ms Linda Keating, met with staff at the Urapuntja Health Centre.
