Anzac Day Isurava, Kokoda, Papua New Guinea

Marking ANZAC Day in Papua New Guinea, the Governor-General paid tribute to the Australians and Papua New Guineans who served side-by-side on the Kokoda Track during a visit to Isurava.

Local residents and Track trekkers welcomed Ms Bryce before she laid a wreath at the Isurava War Memorial.

The Governor-General also viewed the site where Private Bruce Kingsbury VC was killed during World War II, before arriving in Kokoda to lay a wreath at the Memorial to Australian Soldiers.

On arrival, Ms Bryce was given an historical introduction to Kokoda by Lieutenant-Colonel Dave Buller and viewed the Herbert Kienzle Memorial Museum.

Later, the Governor-General met Kokoda residents and descendants of the ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels’ who assisted Australian servicemen during World War II.
