RAAF 92nd Birthday Commemoration Service; Reception for the Australian Medical Students’ Association; Visit to the University of British Colombia; Investiture; Reception for Business and Education Links; Presentation of Endeavour Award Scholarships

On Wednesday 3 April 2013, at the Office of the Governor, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the State Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia in New South Wales, the Right Reverend Trevor Cheetham, and Mrs Penelope Cheetham.

Afterwards, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator received a farewell from the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Duan Jielong.

Later, at the Cenotaph in Martin Place, Sydney, the Administrator laid a wreath at the Royal Australian Air Force 92nd Birthday Commemoration Service.

Then, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator hosted a reception for the Executive of the Australian Medical Students’ Association.

Earlier, at the Museum of Anthropology, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Director of the University First National House of Learning and Senior Advisor to the University President on Aboriginal Affairs, Mr Linc Kesler, and Elder of the Musqueam First Nation, Mr Larry Grant, attended a traditional welcome ceremony and later viewed exhibitions at the museum.

Afterwards, the Governor-General opened a roundtable discussion between Australian and Canadian Indigenous leaders on the subject of economic development.

Later, the Governor-General met with the President of the University of British Columbia, Professor Stephen Toope.

Then, at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Judith Guichon OBC, attended a lunch hosted in their honour.

In the evening, at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel, the Governor-General presented The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to Mr Richard Joyes CV, and invested Mr Kelly Bedford with the insignia of the National Emergency Medal.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Canada-Australia-New Zealand Business Association and the Australian High Commission, attended a reception celebrating business and education links, where the Governor-General presented Endeavour Award Scholarships to Mr William Plowright and Mr Christopher Willie.

Earlier, at the University of British Columbia, Mr Bryce, as guest of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture lecturer, Professor Chris Macdonald and University International Officer, Mr Leonel Roldan-Flores, visited the architecture school.
