Governor-General lays a wreath at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
The Governor-General honoured the sacrifices made by US Defence personnel during a ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific – ‘Punchbowl’ – in Oahu, Hawaii.
The Director of the Cemetery, Colonel Gene Castagnetti (Ret’d), the Governor of the State of Hawaii, Governor Neil Abercrombie, and senior US military officials welcomed Ms Bryce after a 21-gun salute.
The Governor-General laid a wreath at the memorial site and met United States veterans and military personnel who attended the ceremony. Ms Bryce later met Australian Defence Force and personnel and their families at The Pacific Club.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General honoured the service and sacrifices of World War II US personnel killed during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbour at a ceremony at the memorial of the USS Arizona.
