Visit to flood affected Grafton and Bundaberg

On Friday 1 February 2013, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Mayor of Clarence Valley Council, Councillor Richie Williamson, viewed flood affected areas of Grafton and the surrounding district.

Afterwards, in Copmanhurst, the Governor-General received a briefing on the recent flood and later met with flood affected residents.

Then, the Governor-General, as guest of the Principal, Mr Andrew Patterson, met with students and teachers at Copmanhurst Public School.

‪Afterwards, at the SES Headquarters, Grafton, the Governor-General attended a lunch with Emergency workers and volunteers.

‪In the afternoon, at the Disaster Management Coordination Centre, Bundaberg, the Governor-General, as guest of the Mayor of Bundaberg Regional Council, Councillor Mal Forman, received a briefing on the flood crisis and emergency response.

‪Later, at the Civic Evacuation Centre, the Governor-General, as guest of Red Cross volunteer, Ms Maureen Cooper, met with volunteers and residents displaced by the recent floods.

Then, the Governor-General, met with the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Tanya O'Shea, and thanked volunteers assisting with the clean-up of the Impact Skills Centre; a centre opened by the Governor-General in 2011.

‪Afterwards, the Governor-General visited flood affected properties in Bundaberg.

‪Later, at the Agrotrend Evacuation Centre, the Governor-General met with volunteers and residents affected by the recent floods, and then met with members of the Queensland Ambulance Service working at the Operations Support Unit.

‪In the evening, at Bundaberg Civic Centre, the Governor-General, as guest of the Corps Coordinator, Mr Peter Evans, met with members of the Salvation Army Emergency Service.

Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a dinner with volunteers and residents affected by the recent floods.
