Governor-General attends Day Two of the London Paralympics
On Day 2 of the London Paralympics, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce supported Australia’s elite athletes competing in five events across the city.
The Governor-General and Mr Bryce watched the Australian Goalball team compete against Japan at the Copper Box before watching Table Tennis player Melissa Tapper compete against Chinese opponent Lei Fan.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General watched the Australian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team win against Great Britain 51-24 at the North Greenwich Arena and later saw Australian Powerlifter Abebe Fekadu lift 158kg at The ExCel Centre, Customs House.
In the evening, Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce joined over 80,000 people in the Olympic Stadium to watch elite athletes, including Kurt Fearnley, Nathan Arkley, Rachel Dodds and Erinn Walters, compete in their individual events.
While at the Athletics, the Governor-General met the Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lord Sebastian Coe.
