ANZAC Day Events
On Wednesday 25 April 2012, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, attended an ANZAC Day Dawn Service.
Afterwards, at Pitt Street, Sydney, the Administrator was presented with a sprig of Rosemary by a Junior Legatee before leading the Sydney ANZAC Day March.
Later, from the steps of Town Hall, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE, viewed the Sydney ANZAC Day March.
Then, at the ANZAC Memorial, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas attended an ANZAC Day Commemorative Service.
In the afternoon, at Redfern Park War Memorial, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas attended an ANZAC Day Commemorative Service before attending an ANZAC Day March at the Redfern Community Centre.
Earlier, in Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended an ANZAC Day Dawn Service, at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, delivered the keynote address and laid a wreath.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce joined Australian Defence Force personnel for breakfast and attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General promoted three soldiers currently serving on operations in Afghanistan.
Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received a briefing on Australian Defence Force operations and the Provincial Reconstruction Team.
Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a morning tea with members of the Special Operations Task Group.
Afterwards, in Tarin Kowt, the Governor-General visited the Malilai Girls’ School and met with teachers and students.
Later, the Governor-General met with the Governor of Uruzgan Province, Mr Amir Mohammad Akhundzada.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a lunch with representatives of Australian Government agencies operating in Uruzgan Province.
