Federal Executive Council, Minister for Economy, Forestry and Environment in the Government of the Republic of the Congo; Presentation of Louis de Freycinet map, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator; Defence Reserves Support Council Australian Capital Territory

On Thursday 16 June 2011, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Minister for Economy, Forestry and Environment in the Government of the Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Mr Henri Djombo, who presented the Governor-General with a letter from the President of the Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Mr Denis Sassou-Nguesso.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received Mr Henry de Freycinet, who presented a copy of a map by French cartographer, Louis de Freycinet. Mr de Freycinet was accompanied by the Patron of the Australasian Hydrographic Society, Vice Admiral Chris Ritchie AO RANR (Ret’d); Ambassador of France, His Excellency Michel Filhol; Director-General of the National Library of Australia, Ms Anne-Marie Schwirtlich; Chair of the Australia on the Map Division of the Australasian Hydrographic Society, Mr Rupert Gerritsen; and Secretary of the Australia on the Map Division of the Australasian Hydrographic Society, Mr Peter Reynders.

In the evening, at the Residence of the High Commissioner for Singapore, His Excellency Mr Albert Chua, the Governor-General attended a reception in honour of the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, the Right Honourable Baroness Valerie Amos.

Later, at the Australian War Memorial, Campbell, Mr Bryce attended the Employer Support Awards Dinner for the Defence Reserves Support Council Australian Capital Territory.
