On Sunday 13 December 2009, at Adelaide Zoo, South Australia, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a welcome ceremony for Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Funi, at which the Governor-General officially opened the Bamboo Forest.

Afterwards, at the Art Gallery of South Australia, Mr Bryce attended a reception for the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. Later, at Brisbane International Airport, Queensland, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Brigadier Christopher Hamilton ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
