On Tuesday 8 December 2009, at the Royal Military College of Australia, Duntroon, ACT, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the 2009 General Service Officers' Graduation Parade, at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, reviewed the parade and presented the Sword of Honour and the Queen's Medal, and afterwards presented Commissions and Graduate Certificates to Staff Cadets.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Belgium; the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg; and the European Union, the Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson. Later, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Spain, Ms Zorica McCarthy. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for the Australian Public Service departmental secretaries and heads of agencies.
