On Wednesday 2 December 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Croatia, Ms Beverly Mercer.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a morning tea for the General Sir John Monash Foundation at which the Governor-General presented the 2010 General Sir John Monash Awards. Later, the Governor-General received the High Commisioner-designate to the Republic of Malta, Ms Anne Quinane. Then, the Governor-General received the Director of the Wesley Research Institute, Professor Julie Campbell AO. Afterwards, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General received the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Mr Junsai Zhang; the Chief Executive Officer of the China Construction Bank, Mr Jianguo Zhang; the Chief Representative of the China Construction Bank in Australia, Mr Qixin Wang and Chief Executive Officer of Deacons, Mr Don Boyd. Later, at Pymble Ladies' College, Sydney, the Governor-General presented honours awards to students at the Pymble Ladies' College Senior School Speech Night. In the evening, at the Gallery of Australian Design, Canberra, Mr Bryce, as Patron, attended the official opening of the ???Best of the Best?? Exhibition. Earlier, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Mother of the King of the Kingdom of Tonga, Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho, by Commander Ted Wynberg ADC RAN, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
