On Monday 16 November 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Baroness Valerie Amos.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Dr Margaret Chan; the Advisor to the Director-General, Dr Ian Smith and the Director of Program Management for the Western Pacific Regional Office of the World Health Organisation, Dr Hans Troedsson. Later, the Governor-General received Arts Project Coordinator of the Spinifex Arts Project, Dr Peter Twigg, accompanied by artists from the Spinifex Art Project, who remained for afternoon tea. In the evening, at the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the International Symposium ???Barks, Birds and Billabongs: Exploring the Legacy of the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land,' at which the Governor-General delivered the launch address.
