On Monday 17 August 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception at which the Governor-General, as Patron of Group Training Australia, launched the leadership and career development program ???Today's Skills: Tomorrow's Leaders'.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Portuguese Republic, Mr Patrick Lawless. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a dinner in honour of His Excellency Judge Thomas Buergenthal and Mrs Peggie Buergenthal. Guests included: Professor Michael Coper; Mr Patrick Lawless and Ms Emma Luders; the Honourable Robert McClelland MP; Professor Murray Raff and Ms Elizabeth Chatham; Mr Nicholas Rudd; and Professor Kim Rubenstein and Mr Garry Sturgess Earlier, Mr Bryce, as Patron, received the President of The Cancer Council ACT, Ms Christine Brill, and the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Joan Bartlett. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr Frank Ofagioro Kabui CSI CMG OBE by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
