On Thursday 16 July 2009, in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE visited the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame.

Afterwards, as guests of the Principal, Mr Leigh Mullin, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce toured the Alice Springs School of the Air and communicated with remote students using interactive distance learning techniques. Later, at Mount Gillen, Alice Springs, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the grave of the founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Reverend John Flynn OBE. Then, the Governor-General visited the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve. In the evening, at the Alice Springs Civic Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a Civic Reception hosted in their honour by the Mayor of Alice Springs Town Council, His Worship Mr Damien Ryan. Earlier, at St Patrick's Cathedral, East Melbourne, the Governor-General was represented at the State Funeral for the late Mr Edward (Ted) Kenna VC by Brigadier Mike Phelps ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
