On Saturday 28 March 2009, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE departed the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on a State Visit to the Republic of Kenya.

In the afternoon, in Nairobi, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the Girl Child Network project site of Kawangware School where the Governor-General helped serve the daily meal to the school children. In the evening, at the Residence of the Australian High Commissioner to Kenya, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce were guests of honour at a reception hosted by the High Commissioner, Her Excellency Ms Lisa Filipetto. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia by the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
