On Sunday 25 January 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a luncheon for the Australian of the Year finalists.

Later, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
