On Monday 19 January 2009, in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE visited the Australian Army Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force.

Afterwards, in Camp Holland, Tarin Kowt, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Governor of Uruzgan Province, Mr Asadullah Hamdam. Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a briefing by the Associated Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at Kabul Children's Hospital, Dr Khalilullah, at which the Governor-General presented the hospital with medical equipment. Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a briefing on Mahboba's Promise Inc., at which the Governor-General presented the organisation with knitted goods and educational equipment. Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a dinner with members of the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force.
