On Sunday 18 January 2009 at Tathra Surf Lifesaving Club, Tathra, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE attended an event at which the Administrator officially started the Tathra Wharf to Waves Race.

Afterwards in Candelo, NSW, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas attended a ceremony at which the Administrator officially opened the Candelo Show. In the evening, at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a reception hosted by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess M?Ñxima of the Netherlands.
