On Thursday 4 December 2008, at Navy House, Duntroon, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Crane AM CSM RAN attended a ceremony, at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, presented the King's Gold Medal to Captain Walter Wright RAN (Retd).

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi's Masdar Future Energy Company, Dr Sultan Al Jaber; Associate Project Director Sustainability Masdar City, Dr Nawal Al-Hosani; and Global Adviser to Masdar, Mr Iain Twine. Later, at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Campbell, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended the Australian Command and Staff College Graduation Parade, at which the Governor-General presented the Governor-General's Prize and delivered the keynote address. In the afternoon, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received: the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr Teuku Mohammad Hamzah; the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr H.R. Agung Laksono; Members of Parliament: Mr Zulkifli Halim, Mr Ahmad Effendy Choirie, Mr Mahfudz Siddiq, Mr Jamaluddin Karim, Mr Bursah Zarnubi, and Mr Aulia Aman Rachman; Delegation Secretary, Mr Anung Diptohapsoro; Assistant to the Delegation, Ms Winantuningtyastiti Swasanani; Secretary to the Head of the Delegation, Ms Furcony Putri Syakura; Assistant to the Head of the Delegation, Mr Abdul Rasyid; Visit Coordinator Parliamentary Relations Office, Ms Onu Palm; Mr Yasril Ananta Baharuddin; Mr Soewardjono Tjung; and Mr Erwan Soekardja. Afterwards, the Governor General received the Chair of the National Australia Day Council, Mr Adam Gilchrist and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Australia Day Council, Mr Warren Pearson.
