On Wednesday 3 December 2008, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the National Chief Executive Officer of St John Ambulance, Ms Margaret Morton and the Chancellor of St John Ambulance, Dr Neil Conn AO.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a Christmas Party for children from: The Smith Family; Autism Spectrum Australia; Camp Quality; Young Carers; The Thomas Pattison School; Ronald McDonald House ??? Westmead; Saint Lucy's School; and Early Education. Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for Scouts Australia, at which the Governor-General was invested as Chief Scout by the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia, Mr John Ravenhall AM.
